How can I automatically ask HVAC customers for Google reviews after a job?
Reviews drive calls from Google Maps. Asking every customer, every time, is the easy part to automate.
- How do I get more Google reviews?
- Can I only ask happy customers?
- Can I give a discount for a review?
Send every customer a short text or email with a direct link to your Google review form soon after the job is complete. Ask everyone, not only happy customers: Google's rules forbid selectively asking for positive reviews, and the FTC's 2024 rule bans incentives tied to positive sentiment and the suppression of negative reviews. Then reply to reviews, good and bad.
Set it up
- Get the direct review link from your Google Business Profile.
- Trigger the request when the job is marked complete or the invoice is paid.
- Send by text first, with one reminder a few days later, then stop.
- Use the tech's name: "Thanks for having Mike out today."
What you can't do
Google's policy says businesses must not offer incentives for reviews, discourage negative reviews or selectively ask satisfied customers. That rules out "review gating" tools that send only happy customers to Google. In the US, the FTC rule that took effect October 21, 2024 also prohibits fake reviews and incentives conditioned on positive sentiment.
Where AI helps
AI can draft replies to reviews that mention the actual job and tone, which saves time. A person should approve replies to negative reviews, and nobody should reveal private customer details in a public reply.
How we look at it at ShoutEx
Reviews are where automation and marketing meet. More recent reviews help your Google Business Profile and can influence how AI tools describe your company, so we set up requests and replies together.
- Review gating that sends only happy customers to Google.
- Discounts or draws for reviews.
- Staff writing reviews or asking family to post.
- Ignoring negative reviews.
- Every customer asked with a direct link.
- Requests tied to job completion.
- Replies to every review, approved by a person for complaints.
- Review count and rating tracked monthly.
