Why doesn't my HVAC company show up in Google's AI answers?
If competitors appear in Google's AI answers and you don't, the cause is usually the same as for weak local rankings.
- Why is my competitor in the AI Overview?
- Is there a setting to get in AI Overviews?
- Does my website need changing?
Usually because Google can't find clear, trusted information about you for that question. Common causes are pages blocked from indexing, thin service pages, an incomplete Google Business Profile, few recent reviews and no mentions on other sites. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode have no extra requirements: a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet.
Check the basics
| Reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Pages not indexed or blocked | Check Search Console and robots.txt |
| One thin services page | A page per service with real details |
| No service area content | Pages or sections for the areas you serve |
| Incomplete Business Profile | Categories, services, hours, photos |
| Few recent reviews | Ask every customer |
| No mentions elsewhere | Associations, suppliers, local news |
Answer the questions homeowners ask
AI answers pull from pages that answer questions clearly. A page that explains furnace repair costs factors, signs a heat pump is failing or what a tune-up includes gives Google something to cite. Write it in plain language with your own experience.
Measure it
Track the searches that matter to you, note when AI Overviews appear and who is cited. Google Search Console includes AI feature traffic in its normal reports, so watch impressions and clicks for those queries.
How we look at it at ShoutEx
We treat AI visibility as part of local SEO, not as a separate project. The fixes are the same, and they pay off in Maps, normal results and AI answers together.
- Paying for "AI Overview placement". Google doesn't sell it.
- AI-written pages with no real detail.
- Blocking Google's crawler by mistake.
- Ignoring the Business Profile.
- Indexed, crawlable pages.
- Clear service and area pages.
- A complete, active Business Profile.
- Tracking of AI-triggering searches.
What HVAC owners and researchers say
Here is what Google and contractors say.
Google lists normal SEO practices for its AI features: allow crawling, use internal links, keep content in text and keep Business Profile details current.
Read Google's guidance →Owners compare notes on AI Overviews in local searches and what the cited companies have in common.
Browse the threads →ACHR News covers marketing for residential contractors, including search and online reviews.
Browse the section →Community summaries describe recurring themes in public threads, not individual posts. Vendor pages describe vendor claims, so test them on your own calls.

Do AI Overviews show for local searches?
They can appear for many questions, including informational ones like costs and symptoms. Map results still show for many "near me" searches.
Will schema markup get me in?
Google says no special schema is needed. Structured data helps only if it matches what's visible on the page.
How long until changes show?
It depends on how often Google crawls your site. Fixes to the Business Profile can show sooner than website changes.
